10 The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face?11 Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. Joshua 7:10
Like Joshua I fell on my face asking God, why I was going through these trials in my life. He brought me to the verse above to the answer that he gave Joshua and it made me go hmmm.
I said to myself Lord, I haven’t sinned where have I violated your covenant, where have I been disobedient. I then found a sermon by T.D Jakes and he spoke about running ahead of the process and chasing after the success of your purpose and ignoring where you are presently.
I had to take a real hard look at myself, my disobedience was not being faithful to my calling. I am called to write but yet it’s a struggle for me to sit down and write everyday. I love to write but why has it become so hard for me? God gave me the answer, I have been so caught up in becoming successful that the passion and my love for writing has gone.
The struggle in my life God has used it to slow me down and make me refocus on the process of my calling rather than the actual calling. I was expecting things to happen overnight, so much so that when I received no feedback it deterred me from wanting to write anymore.
I realized I have to refocus on my love and passion for writing, my love and passion for God. Those have to be more important than achieving any success in order for me to have GOOD success. If you are chasing success, money, fame they will all lead to trouble. Even if you make it for a bit it won’t last because it has no foundation. The journey towards your purpose is used to build that foundation. It strengthens you, build confidence and boldness, so don’t do what I did and become impatient with the process. Enjoy that time develop your skills and your passion for your purpose.
I challenge you today to reflect on what exactly it is that you are chasing. How have you strayed away from your purpose. Are you driven by your purpose or by what it can get you?
